Airport. Train station. It is all the same when it comes to seating these days. The powers that be are obsessed with preventing anyone from staying for long or sitting comfortably while waiting. There is a particular cruelty to this when those same powers are unable to provide efficient services and we now live in the world of transport delays, delays, delays. But, heaven forbid, the suffering passengers should be able to lie down. No no no!! But they can try.

Not everything on the Blame It On The Voices website is my cup of tea!

From the pages of Alice44, a sagacious stumbler with a weather eye on the USA's political skew.
I like her style.

Bird photography at its very, very best.
Bradley is a seriously skilled Canadian twitcher who suffers for his art - thinking nothing of hours standing knee-deep in chilly waters waiting for that special bird and that special shot. He indulges in some flora photography and the odd insect, too. But, in truth, he is a bird man of the first order.
His pix don't copy to SU - but he has kindly emailed one to illustrate this review. Click on the link, not the image, to see the galleries.

My very, very, very favourite spider - the little jumper or salticid. This one is from Papual New Guinea and it is part of the brilliant photogallery of Darlyne A. Murawski. She is a research biologist and photographer - also author of some kids's books.
Beneath is a cheeky little katydid - and an extraordinary jungle peek at a bird's eye.

With thanks to Xtine66.

From Time magazine's coverage of the book, The Hungry Planet which, at $55, seems like a pretty good buy since this is a difficult and fascinating project.
One can't help but pore over the comparative studies, reflecting on the choices and prices and cultural habits.
From the available selection, I am showing three - because - the first one is how I like to eat, the second looks like a diet on which one should live for ever and the third, well, it purports to be of my own country, and I am gobsmacked, shocked, appalled and mystified. Who are these people? What is their ethnicity? What on earth sort of heavy, fatty meat diet are they on and how come they can eat so much breakfast cereal in just a week?

The right second - photos captured at that precise moment. But don't believe it is all luck. You need a really good camera and you need to be carrying it all the time. That is how brilliant photos like this are achieved.

Was ever there such a proud cat. The formal poses, the serious expressions...this is a classic family portrait of the olden days tradition.
The Picsyard collection of dogs and cats is vast and very touching, entertaining and heart-warming. There is only one fault. The photographers are not credited!

Peacemakr ponders "what the world would be like without photographs". Not quite so rich, methinks. Certainly not for us on SU.
Peacemakr's is a wonderous photoblog - thoughtful and beautiful. I lift this image from her page - for it says everything about rebirth and continuity - even HAPPY NEW YEAR, dear Stumblers!
